Timothy Buckwalter
Well, I Wish For Once, You Would Just Stop Coping
May 1 - June 2, 2010
Opening Reception: May 1, 4 - 7pm

Well, I Wish For Once, You Would Just Stop Coping is a selection of recent drawings from San Francisco-based artist Timothy Buckwalter. Chosen from Buckwalter's archive of more than 800 works on paper, Well, I Wish For Once, You Would Just Stop Coping features highlights from Buckwalter's last five years of ink drawings. To produce his word-based drawings, Buckwalter sorts through old comic strips, hacking out bits of dialogue that offer insight, often in a humorous vein, into universal- or self-understanding. The phrases are abbreviated and edited on a computer, resized, and then hand-painted onto sheets of paper. The resulting expressions hover somewhere in the grey area between self-loathing, self-loving, anger, and despair.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Timothy Buckwalter (born 1966) now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Tyler School of Art. Buckwalter has been included in the Linz Biennale and exhibited in New York, Portland, Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco. Concurrent with Well, I Wish For Once, You Would Just Stop Coping at Factory Outlet Gallery, is Imitation of Life a selection of more than 120 drawings at The Green Line Cafe in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

March 11 - April 22, 2010

"Tuscan Trees 2"
Tuppy Lawson's sculptural forms, developed over the last decade, are inspired by the Mediterrnean and North American landscapes. She uses watercolor techniques to draw and paint her visions into the topographical forms of the sculptures.
Tuppy says, "I'm concerned about the environment and the impact of mankind throughout the world and feel compelled to record these snapshot vignettes of our beautiful surrounding landscapes before they are ruined or disappear altogether. I use my Canon camera to record landscapes as I travel, and refer back to these pictures as needed."

Antonia (Tuppy) Lawson was born in Hong Kong of English parents. She studied in England age 11 to 18, in Taiwan age 22 to 25. Tuppy has lived and worked in England, France, Hong Kong and U.S.A. She is an exhibiting member and previous board member of the Association Clay and Glass Artists of California and is the Ceramic Technician at the Terra Linda Recreation Center.
